Hidden Lake Safari: An Unforgettable Experience

Our Safari

The safari on our property includes a variety of Texas animals. You will have the opportunity to watch as these animals roam throughout the camp. Below you will find a list of animals you are likely to see during your stay at our property:

George

Our resident donkey, George, provides ample enjoyment and laughs for our visitors. He is known to wander the park, alongside his girlfriend Joy and the two together are quite the pair. Don’t be surprised if you spot George next to your campsite one day, as he enjoys meeting new people and is one of our most popular animal celebrities.

Blackbuck Antelope

The Blackbuck Antelope is a striking, medium-sized antelope. The males are known for their distinct spiral horns, which can grow over 30 inches in length! Additionally, the black glossy coats on our Blackbuck Antelope are striking and definitely a must-see when you visit us. These animals graze on grasses and herbs and you’ll probably spot them happily munching on our grass throughout the ranch!

They also can move very fast, traveling  at speeds up to 31 mph. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the population for the Blackbuck Antelope has dwindled. Conservation efforts, such as our safari, have helped save these species from harm.

Scimitar Oryx

Another type of antelope, the Scimitar Oryx differs from the Blackbuck Antelope with a long, curved horn. This horn additionally can grow over three feet in length.

Once native to the Sahara, this species additionally faced challenges with habitat loss and extinction in the early 2000s. Breeding efforts have reintroduced the Scimitar Oryx back into its natural habitat and helped to grow the population. Witness their beauty today as you walk throughout our property.

Jacob Sheep

One of the most distinct looking sheep, the Jacob Sheep stands proud in our safari. Its wooly coat typically ranges from black or white to various patterns in between. These sheep can either have 2 or 4 unique horns.. For those with four, two of them typically face upwards, with the bottom two curved down. This makes for a unique design! Originally from the Middle East, these creatures were known for bringing meat, milk and wool, making them a multi-purpose sheep.

They can adapt to their surroundings better than most animals, making them a sought after sheep by farmers. However, they can roam free in our conservation safari, enjoying the grass and company of others. Make sure to bring your camera, as the Jacob sheep is a unique-looking animal, worthy of a few pictures.

Fallow Deer

The Fallow Deer is native to Europe, but finds its way into our beloved community. Their “palmate” antlers, or flattened antlers, make this type of deer stand out from other species of deer. Their coats range from a reddish-brown to gray, often both with white spots. They are social animals and tend to form small herds.
